Mr. Clements was born May 10, 1944, in Greenfield, to Ora Deigh Clements and Mary Irene (Divine) Clements. He grew up on his family's farm in Lamar and loved hunting and fishing. His schooling through sixth grade was in a one-room schoolhouse called Forest Grove. He walked to and from school with his siblings and ate cold gravy sandwiches for lunch. He graduated from Lamar High School in the class of 1962, where he played football for the Tigers.
After high school he attended college at Pittsburg State University. For most of his career he was an insurance agent for the Combined Insurance Company. While working, he traveled across the Midwest and never met a stranger or forgot a name.
He raised three daughters and reminded them often that he wished they were boys. When all three of his daughters were in the same room, he could be found covering his ears. He complained that they talked way too much and way too loud. He also never got a word in around them. He did pass his sarcastic humor onto all three of his daughters. However, they did not share his love for the camouflage clothing.
A healthy Barton County requires great community news.
