Last cruise night of 2024 features Coffee and Chrome

Jennie and Chad McManis were the judges on Friday, Oct. 4, for the Coffee and Chrome Cruise held by Lamar Cruise Night on the west side of the Lamar square. Donations were given throughout the night for the “Fight for Denny” Car Show fundraiser that is being held October 13, in Carl Junction. Denny has been diagnosed with lung cancer. Denny’s grandson, Dennis Raulston, was present and brought Denny’s truck. Denny was unable to be present as he is on a high volume oxygen machine at the time. The Culinary Cowboy was on hand selling treats, and chili and cookies were served. Trophy winners were left to right, Verna Payton, Neosho; Niki Sisseck, Nevada and Jack McQuirk with Joker, Joplin.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger The Jasper Eagle’s homecoming was held Friday, Oct. 4, with the theme being “Lights, Camera, Homecoming”. Coronation ceremonies were held prior to the football game against the Greenfield Wildcats. Being crowned queen was senior Paige Sentlinger, with senior Brady Sisseck being crowned king.
Jasper homecoming royalty recognized
Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Senior Elizabeth Renfro, a Golden City Lady Eagle and homecoming candidate, was crowned queen during ceremonies held Friday evening, Oct. 4. Her escort, junior Spencer Parrill, was crowned king. Crown and sash bearers were Willow Renfro and David Walters. Also pictured were other candidates, senior Reese Moore, senior Tyra Menadue, senior Jessie Yardley, senior Hunter Taylor, senor Nathan Weiser and junior Madison Menadue. The coronation was held prior to the games.
Golden City Homecoming royalty crowned
Photos by Kristy Robertson/Barton County Chamber of Commerce The Barton County Chamber held its annual Wyatt Earp Fallfest on Saturday, Oct. 5, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Wyatt Earp Park. The park is located on the northeast corner of the downtown Lamar square and was full of vendors of all varieties and many stopping day during the day to enjoy the festivities. There was also a BabyToddler and Little Miss Cowgirl and Mr. Cowboy contest, along with a dog show. Music was provided throughout the day, along with Wyatt Earp speaking to those that had gathered. Wyatt Earp Fallfest enjoys large turnout
The Lamar sixth grade youth football team played a hard fought battle against Carthage White, in Carthage, on Saturday, Oct 5. The score stood at 0-0 until the top of the fourth quarter, than ended the fourth quarter tied at 6-6. Going into overtime, the Tigers tried to score four times and just couldn’t come up with a touchdown. Carthage White then ended the game on their fourth try, going ahead by a score of 12-6. The final game, prior to the Super Bowl, will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, against the Tigers of Nevada.
