Photos by James Epple The Barton County Chamber of Commerce would like to thank everyone that attended or participated in the 2024 Lamar Christmas Lighting and Parade held Friday evening, Nov. 22, on the Lamar square, at the Wyatt Earp Park, along with a Christmas market held at Memorial Hall. Mother Nature even got into the act with her spectacular sky! The Tiger Youth Choir performed at the park prior to the parade that featured stunning performances by the marching band, dazzling lighted floats, Santa and Mrs. Claus and all various types of floats and entries that made the parade a huge success. Someone made the remark that the crowd on the square reminded them of “olden” days, when the square was the place to be during the holidays. The evening was filled with laughter, wonder and memories to cherish. Please see the December 4 edition of the Lamar Democrat for more pictures and information on the evening.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger The Lamar Rotary Club held its annual Veterans Day appreciation luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the Lamar Methodist Church. Those attending were treated to a catered lunch with high school choir students and Rotary members serving those who served their country. The choir also performed two extremely emotional patriotic songs during the ceremony. During the program the Missing Man Table ritual was observed.

It was a busy night at the Lamar R-1 School Board November meeting, as members were given a tour of the new Lamar Career and Technical Center Culinary Arts program. Prior to the meeting, students transformed the high school library into a fine dining restaurant, while showing what their futures may be in the culinary field. Following the dinner, the board heard an update on the cross country season for both middle and high school.
LCTC Culinary Arts students shine
The MO Beef Kids Program was awarded $50,000 by the Danny and Jewell Little Grantmaking Fund. MO Beef Kids program, who has been the heartbeat of Barton County since 2017, connects schools and their food service professionals to cattle farmers and ranchers to “beef” up school lunches.

Jerome Weber, son of Jim and Kara Weber, is the sixth grade Lamar Middle School Student of the Week. In his spare time Jerome likes to read and draw. He participates in Archery and wants to run cross country next year. His favorite subject is Reading.
