A “good-bye” and “good luck” reception was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12, in the City of Lamar meeting room, for Lamar Police Chief Joe Moore, who will be leaving his position to take the job as chief deputy at the Newton County Sheriff’s Department. Chief Moore became the Lamar Police Chief on June 2, 2020, as he noted, just before the beginning of Covid! Police Lieutenant Steve Shaw presented Moore with gifts prior to the serving of cookies and punch. Chief Moore noted that his experience in Lamar had been extremely pleasurable and that he has enjoyed working with the people that he knows will continue to do a good job. In speaking on behalf of the city, Lamar Mayor Rick Oeltjen expressed the loss on behalf of the city, thanking Moore for personally teaching him a lot over the last couple of years. Moore had two special guests at the reception, his wife, Heather and daughter, Stella.
