Police Chief Joe Moore is given fond farewell

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger A “good-bye” and “good luck” reception was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12, in the City of Lamar meeting room, for Lamar Police Chief Joe Moore, who will be leaving his position to take the job as chief deputy at the Newton County Sheriff’s Department. Chief Moore became the Lamar Police Chief on June 2, 2020, as he noted, just before the beginning of Covid! Police Lieutenant Steve Shaw presented Moore with gifts prior to the serving of cookies and punch. Chief Moore noted that his experience in Lamar had been extremely pleasurable and that he has enjoyed working with the people that he knows will continue to do a good job. In speaking on behalf of the city, Lamar Mayor Rick Oeltjen expressed the loss on behalf of the city, thanking Moore for personally teaching him a lot over the last couple of years. Moore had two special guests at the reception, his wife, Heather and daughter, Stella.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger AOK (About Our Kids) was the second “Business Spotlight” featured by the Barton County Chamber of Commerce. An open house was held from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12, at Nathan’s Place on the northwest corner of the Lamar square. Chad Williams, director of the Barton County Ambulance District and community paramedic, offered free Narcan training and administration, plus the many offerings of AOK were featured throughout the morning.

Twenty-eight home schooled students from Lamar and Liberal participated in the 4-H STEM Challenge, “Food For Thought”. One of the events included a tour of The Bearded Bee, where they learned the process of making just the right cup of coffee.
