Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Members of the community were blessed by the Lamar Methodist Church on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, with the yearly tradition of a traditional Christmas dinner cooked and served by members of the church. Dinners were available for delivery, pick up or dine in from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the church’s family life center. The number of meals topped last year with a total of 750 being served, with 400 deliveries, 200 pick ups and the rest enjoying their time dining in as they visited with family and friends. The many volunteers through both donations of their time and money are invaluable and extremely appreciated.

Photo by Sharon Wingert Golden City’s Christmas Parade was held Saturday, Dec. 7, 10 a.m., with several participants coming from all over the area. The parade was presented by the Golden City Fire Department and groups included business, church, general public and walking. There were several firetrucks, ambulances, machinery, automobiles, ATVs, floats, a band, walkers and mules, along with a pony cart. Festivities were held at the Golden City Fire Department following the parade and holiday crafts for kids were put on by the Golden City PTO. The parade king and queen were crowned and Santa, of course, was present for the festivities.

Photos by Sharon Wingert After having to be postponed from a rainout in July, the Golden Harvest Days Tractor Pull was held Saturday, Sept. 14, at Golden City Grain and Cotton, 201 F Street. The event included a tractor show, kids tractor pull and a classic antique tractor pull. Concessions and vendors were set up as well. The day began with the tractor show at 9 a.m., followed with the kiddie tractor pull at 10 a.m. and the antique tractor pull weight in at 11 a.m., with the event set to begin at 1 p.m.

Several area agencies assisted with Shop With a Hero, held Saturday morning, Dec. 21, at the local Walmart in Lamar. This was the 18th successful year for the program.
