ALICE JEAN “JEANIE” BURKHARDT

February 07, 2025

Alice Jean "Jeanie" Burkhardt, 78, of Pueblo, Colorado, passed away on February 1, 2025. She was the beloved wife of William J. Burkhardt, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage.
Jeanie was born on February 8, 1946, in Lamar, Missouri, to Frank and Violet Thrasher. She graduated from Lamar High School and then earned her Bachelor’s degree from Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas. After relocating to Pueblo, Jeanie dedicated 32 years to teaching as the department head of Home Economics at Pueblo South High School and led the Future Homemakers of America club for her students. She left a lasting impact on countless staff members, and her passion for teaching and commitment to her students was evident in everything she did.
Jeanie loved her family deeply and devoted much of her time to them. She cherished every moment spent with her family, always putting their needs above her own. Her home was a place of comfort, warmth, and love, where everyone felt welcome.
Outside of the classroom, Jeanie’s creativity and warmth were felt by everyone she loved. She was an exceptional cook who enjoyed preparing meals for family gatherings, and holidays were particularly special to her. Christmas, in particular, was a time when Jeanie’s generosity was evident. She loved showering her family with thoughtful gifts and creating lasting memories with her loved ones. She also had a passion for sewing and quilting. The beautiful quilts she crafted will be cherished by her family for years to come.
Jeanie’s giving spirit extended beyond her home and family. A longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and, more recently, First Presbyterian Church, she lived her faith through acts of kindness and love for others.
Jeanie is survived by her loving husband, William; her children, Melissa Burkhardt-Shields and Forrest Shields of Colorado Springs, Todd and Jen Burkhardt of Centennial, Colorado; her four grand dogs, Sadie, Bella, Ryder, and Daly; her brother, David Thrasher, and his wife, Barb Thrasher of Lamar, Missouri; and her dear niece, Tai Thrasher McCoy and her husband Brandon McCoy of Ozark, Missouri. She will also be missed by many extended family members and friends who were touched by her kindness, generosity, and love.
A public viewing will beheld at Imperial Funeral Home in Pueblo, Colorado on Monday, February 10th from 3 PM to 7 PM.
Jeanie’s legacy of love, faith, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to inspire and bring comfort to those whose lives she touched.
A celebration of life and service will be held at a later date.
