Poster contest held for Community Safety Net “Rural Safety”

Safety First was the focus of the Community Safety Net “Rural Safety” program, where Liberal third grade students evaluated what they had learned and enjoyed by creating posters. Barton County 4-H hosted a poster contest in conjunction with the program. Winners in the contest were, pictured left to right, Kael Myers, Maci Hoffman and Dax Wolf. Posters shared topics on animal safety, water safety, grain bin safety, ATV safety and fire safety. A special thank you is extended to Teri Harrison, third grade teacher and the Liberal FFA Leadership team for making it a special day for all of the students.

Lamar Democrat/Chris Morrow The Liberal Bulldogs came into the Class 1 District 6 tournament at home as the number two seed. They defeated New Heights 16-0 in the first round and here senior pitcher Jordan Goodell fires a pitch during the 7-2 win over Jasper in the semifinal. Playing first base is Ava Garrett. The Lady Bulldogs dropped the championship game 2-1 to top-seeded Lockwood Thursday.

Lamar Democrat/Payton Morrow Lamar's Trent Torbeck fires a pitch in last week's doubleheader. The Tigers won the first game over Liberal and then faced off with Big 8 Conference foe Mount Vernon. The Mountaineers won the contest 4-3 in 10 innings. Look for a story over the Tigers in next week's issue.
