Liberal girls place at state championship

Photo by Cathy Williams Ally Barton, a sophomore at Liberal High School, placed third with a time of 1:00.40 in the Girls 400 Meter Dash at the Missouri State Class 1 Championship held May 23 and 24, at Adkins Stadium in Jefferson City. Barton (right in the photo) also placed second in the Girls 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:21.96, while Liberal senior Taylor Swarnes (left in the photo) took second with 2:25.39. Members of the Liberal High School girls track team placed sixth in the Girls 4x800 Meter Relay with a time of 10:29.30 and Liberal sophomore Ava Garrett (in the second picture) placed ninth in the Girls Discus Throw with a measurement of 32.75m. Liberal placed fifth in the Overall Women Class 1 Team Rankings.

Photo by Cathy Williams Ben Dingman, a sophomore at Liberal High School and member of the boys track team, won the State Championship title in the Triple Jump with a measurement of 13.38m at the Missouri State Class 1 Championship held May 23 and 24, at Adkins Stadium at Jefferson City High School. Dingman also placed eighth in the Boys Long Jump with 6.24m and third in the Boys 300 Meter Hurdles with a score of 40.75. Liberal High School ranked 11th in Class 1 team rankings.

Photo by Payton Morrow The Lamar Tigers had a terrific season including winning the district championship. Key to the Tigers success was the play of a strong senior class. At a recent home game second baseman Cooper Haun goes back on pop-up while fellow senior Eli Hull sprints in from right field. The Tigers dropped a hard-fought sectional battle with Clever Wednesday at Monett to complete their season.

Here, Liberal High School sophomore Ally Barton heads for the finish line. She finished third in the 400 meter dash and second in the open 800 meters and the 1600 meters and was a member of the 4x800 relay team that finished sixth.

Photo by Ozark Sports Center Preston Heins placed third with a jump of 6.67 (21’ 10.6”) in the Class 3 Long Jump at the MSHSAA State Competition held in Jefferson City. Preston will continue long jumping as an unattached athlete in AAU Track & Field for the remaining summer season.
