Fire engulfs large part of 1900 Gulf Properties

Photo courtesy of CK Warden A call came in to the Lamar Fire Department at around 11:22 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, regarding a working structure fire at 1900 Gulf Properties. Mutual aid was requested by Liberal, Golden City, Jasper, Pittsburg, Kan. and Carthage Fire Departments. At the time of the press release on Thursday morning, July 3, the fire was still actively burning, but had been mostly contained. It is roughly estimated that 500,000 sq. ft. of the property and contents were destroyed.
