The Barton County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for the newly remodeled offices of the Lamar Police Department at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 24. The station, located at 1106 Broadway, recently underwent about a six month transformation that was made possible due to the City of Lamar moving its main facility to the northwest corner of the Lamar square. This freed up the space to be used for a top of the line Lamar Police Department building that was proudly shown to the public by Lamar Police Chief Shannon Crouch, following the ribbon cutting. The original building was totally gutted and a new floor plan was developed especially to meet the needs of the police department. A few of the new amenities include separate offices for the chief of police and lieutenant, separate bathrooms, showers and lockers for men and women, a 20’x30’ meeting room, a kitchen area, evidence room, holding area and an interview room. The total area of the remodeled police department ended up being 6,400 sq. ft. Chief Crouch noted that the meeting room would be utilized as a Central Command Post during catastrophic events, search and rescue efforts or any other event causing multiple agencies to work together. He stated that the department would allow a centralized location for multiple agencies to work together at one location for specific needs.
