MARK ALLEN SARGENT

January 19, 2026

Mark Allen Sargent, age 72, of Carthage, Missouri, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 13, 2026.

Mark was born on August 12, 1953, in Britt, Iowa, to Donald and Joanna Sargent. He spent most of his childhood in Joplin and Carthage, Missouri, and graduated from Carthage High School in 1971. During his school years, he enjoyed playing golf and worked at the Joplin Globe.

In 1971, Mark married Marcia (Snip) Jenkins, and together they raised two children, Andrea and Brian, in Carterville and later Golden City, Missouri. Mark married Carol (Revels) Sargent in 2001, who remained a dear friend throughout the years.

Mark began his career as a brick mason before becoming a master automotive mechanic, working for many years at Gilkey Chevrolet in Lamar, Missouri. The remaining years of his career were spent working various jobs in transportation and logistics before retiring. In retirement, Mark found joy in collecting treasures and gadgets, always ready with just the right item someone might need. Known as a man of few words, Mark was genuinely kind and loved his family deeply. He had a love for animals and lived a life marked by contentment and gratitude.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Joanna Sargent, and his brothers, Dale and Dean Sargent. He is survived by his former wife and dear friend, Carol Sargent; children, Andrea (Jim) Cunningham and Brian Sargent; their mother, Marcia (Burly) Jenkins; grandchildren, Ashlyn (Nick) Amy and Jack Cunningham; sister, Peggy (Richard) Hegwer; nephews, Brad (Tracy) Hegwer, Matt (Randi) Hegwer, and Sam (Kim) Hegwer; and several great-nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Mercy Hospital in Joplin for the wonderful care they provided Mark during his final days.

A small Celebration of Life ceremony will be scheduled at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Carthage Humane Society in care of the Funeral Home or through www.carthagehumanesociety.com.

Services are under the personal care and direction of Simpson Funeral Home. The family encourages relatives and friends to visit www.simpsonfh.com to share photos and memories of Mark. As we remember him, may we all strive to live our lives with as much passion, dedication, and kindness as Mark did.
