Despite the recent rain and wind, Monday, May 25 was a beautiful day as Memorial Day Services were held at the Barton County Memorial Park at 10:30 a.m. Members of VFW Post 3691 and the American Legion Post 209 participated in the ceremony. At the beginning of the service all stood for the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by prayer. VFW Post Commander Iver Johnson welcomed the large group that attended the services, recognizing the ultimate sacrifice that was made by the fallen soldiers, noting the day was a day of grief and celebration. Members then took part in the ceremony by placing designated wreaths and flowers in remembrance of their comrades in arm that gave their all for their country. Following a gun salute, the haunting playing of Taps closed out the service. Much of the crowd remained following the service, as they took the opportunity to view the many features of the Memorial Park.
