WILLIAM “BILLY” LEE BORDEN

William (Billy) Lee Borden, 58, passed away at 1:10 a.m., Monday July 21, 2026 at his residence in Mindenmines, Missouri.

He was born May 14, 1968 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, a son of William A. Borden, Jr. and  Julie Anne Bouchard.

Billy moved with his family to Girard in 1970 and he attended school in Girard and graduated from the Girard High School.  

While in 7th grade, Billy began working for his father at the NAPA parts store in Girard.

Billy married Tina L. Hopkins on November 19, 2000 in Gross, Kansas  and Tina survives of the home.

Billy worked as a mechanic at various shops in the area and in 1998 he began working at Mid-Continental Restoration in Fort Scott and he recently retired after 28 years.

Billy loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed his time with  friends, and he never met a stranger. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, nature and being outdoors, tinkering with projects and helping his friends. He liked planting a vegetable garden, working in the yard, hunting mushrooms and asparagus and watching Kansas City Chiefs football. He enjoyed watching movies with Tina, boating, and their time together at their Lake home in Grove, Oklahoma. He enjoyed drinking beer and visiting with his friends. He was a member of the Son’s of the American Legion of Erie, Kansas

Survivors, in addition to his wife, Tina, of the home, are his children Josh Gooding, and his girlfriend, Amber, of Liberty, Missouri and Shelbe Borden, and her fiancé, Noah Harris, of Joplin, Missouri; his granddaughters, Reese Johnson and Ryland Johnson, his mother, Julie-Anne Harlan, of Farlington; his grand dog, Duchess; his brothers, Joe Borden, and his girlfriend, Sherry, of Pittsburg and Ben Borden, and his wife, Lou, of Farlington; his sister, Debbie Tersinar, and her husband, Gary, of Mounds, Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, William A. Borden Jr.

Services for William Lee Borden was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Chaplain Daniel Powell officiating.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until service time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Borden Family and these may be left at the service or mailed to the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
