LAMAR- Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lamar United Methodist Church for Charles Royal Brooks, 89, Lamar, who died Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at his home, following a short illness. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Lamar United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Tim Brooks and wife Lori and Charles Brooks, all of Lamar; a daughter, Sandra Brooks, Eldon; a daughter-in-law, Patti Brooks, Lamar; two half-sisters, Billie Bruggeman, Norwalk, Conn. and Anita Osborne, Cheyenne, Wyo.; four grandchildren, Seth, Kathleen, Cara and Hannah Brooks; two great-grandchildren, Gustavo and Tony Ibarra-Brooks and a great-niece, Ashlyn Sisk.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ina Mae Brooks, on Sept. 22, 2015; a son, Bill Brooks and two sisters, Betty Anderson-Bittleston and Bonnie Anzai.

Mr. Brooks was born Dec. 14, 1928, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Leslie and Dorothy Brooks. On Aug. 31, 1952, at St. James Church near Milford, he married the love of his life, Ina Mae Kelley. They made their home in Lamar, where he worked for the Missouri Highway Department for 36 years. They were devoted members of Lamar United Methodist Church and could always be counted on to help wherever there was a need. With his gentle nature and big heart, he naturally made people a priority and delighted in the fellowship of family and friends. He was a Lamar Tiger fan and enjoyed following his grandkids ball games. He was an animal lover and especially appreciated the companionship of his two dogs, Blackie and Bailey.
