BERNE JONES

LAMAR- A private family service will be held for Berne Eugene Jones, 81, Lamar, who died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin.
Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife Helen, of the home; a daughter, Holly Jones, Pittsburg, Kan.; two sisters, Noma VanDorn and husband Harry Lee, Asbury and Judy Tolman and husband Bob, Lamar; two grandchildren, Dustin Jones and wife Crystal, Fresno, Calif. and Mallory Sharattenholder and husband Marcus, Lewiston, Idaho and four great-grandchildren, Haily Jones, Makyla Jones, Elijah Jones and Lucas Wang.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Letton and a daughter, Starla Miller in 2018.
Mr. Jones was born July 3, 1939, in rural Cherokee County, Kan., to Franklin Howard Jones and Minnie E. (Aughenbauch) Jones. He was a 1957 graduate of Pittsburg High School. He married Helen Ruth Linville in Arvada, Colo., on November 20, 1959, and together they raised two daughters. They resided in Colorado for 47 years and 10 years in Arizona, until they moved to Lamar five years ago. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
Mr. Jones had worked cutting and selling firewood, was an appliance repairman, a groundskeeper for Jefferson County Public Schools Outdoor Lab, a farmer and spent 12 years managing RV parks in Colorado and California. He enjoyed collecting and trading knives as well going to auctions and garage sales.
