Anchor re-dedication held at Barton County Memorial Park

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Despite the chilly weather, several turned out for the anchor re-dedication that was held at the Barton County Memorial Park on Saturday morning, Oct. 14. The program began with Joe Davis explaining the original and subsequent happenings at the park, while Mike Orahood, president of the Barton County Historical Society, told of the many individuals that have served as anchors for the community. Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Despite the recent wet weather the area has been experiencing, and after having to make some adjustments, the Lamar Elks Lodge No. 2800 was still able to hold its Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19, at 12 noon. Rather than being held on the park lawn, the event was set up inside the shelter house, where members had been busy getting ready. Tables categorized into age groups 0-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 9-12 were laden with several larger gifts, along with bags of eggs that were handed out to the children. There were 4,000 eggs distributed, with 400 $5 bills included in several of the eggs, along with tickets for bigger prizes to be chosen from. Hot dogs and cold drinks were served to the many attending andopportunities were offered to have pictures taken with the Easter Bunny.

Irwin Community Church hosted its sixth wild game feed on Saturday evening, March 29. The wild game fare included beaver, venison, raccoon and spoonbill, with a wide variety of dishes. For those not adventurous, barbecued beef meatballs and a rabbit casserole were served, as well as a table full of yummy desserts.
