LAMAR- No services are planned for Mark Steven Sparks, 62, who died Saturday, May 25, 2024.

Arrangements are under the direction of Konantz Warden Funeral Home.

Survivors include his children, Amanda Sparks, Aurora, Steven Sparks, Mt. Vernon and Destiny Sparks, Lamar and siblings, Richard Sparks, Lamar, Rhonda Trent, Lamar, Lewis Sparks, Lamar, David Sparks and wife Cara, Greenfield, May Fleetwood and husband Jr., Aurora and Kay Sparks, Lamar.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Mary Moore and Pat Larkie.

Mr. Sparks was born in Ft. Scott, Kan. to Martha (Thompson) and Stephen Sparks. He grew up in Lamar and was a 1979 graduate of Lamar High School.

He worked in several places including Thorco, TAMKO and had his own landscaping business. He enjoyed making things with his hands, especially with wood and could turn nothing into something.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Despite the recent wet weather the area has been experiencing, and after having to make some adjustments, the Lamar Elks Lodge No. 2800 was still able to hold its Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19, at 12 noon. Rather than being held on the park lawn, the event was set up inside the shelter house, where members had been busy getting ready. Tables categorized into age groups 0-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 9-12 were laden with several larger gifts, along with bags of eggs that were handed out to the children. There were 4,000 eggs distributed, with 400 $5 bills included in several of the eggs, along with tickets for bigger prizes to be chosen from. Hot dogs and cold drinks were served to the many attending andopportunities were offered to have pictures taken with the Easter Bunny.

Irwin Community Church hosted its sixth wild game feed on Saturday evening, March 29. The wild game fare included beaver, venison, raccoon and spoonbill, with a wide variety of dishes. For those not adventurous, barbecued beef meatballs and a rabbit casserole were served, as well as a table full of yummy desserts.
