Born on April 10, 1941, in Lamar, Missouri, John was the son of Carl Milton Moore and Mildred Lillian (Addis) Moore. A proud graduate of Lamar High School, Class of 1959, he went on to build a life marked by hard work, community service, and devotion to his family. On November 26, 1964, he married Marilyn Rae Main in Lamar, and together they shared 60 wonderful years.
John was an outstanding athlete at Lamar High School, excelling in football, basketball, baseball, and track. He earned numerous conference and state awards across these sports, leaving a legacy of determination and excellence.
John was well-known in the community as the owner and operator of the Blue Top Restaurant for over 30 years, where he welcomed friends and neighbors with warm hospitality. He also worked as a car salesman and was a dedicated farmer and rancher. His passion for service extended beyond his work—he was an active member of Rotary, Metro, the NRA, and served as president of the Lamar Country Club.
Some of the fondest moments of John’s life were spent fishing on Bull Shoals Lake, a place deeply connected to his family’s roots. He treasured those peaceful days on the water, creating lasting memories. Another of John’s greatest loves was singing, and he was an original member of the Freedom Singers Quartet. His voice brought joy to many, and his love for music was a defining part of his life.
Affectionately known as "Little Cedar," John was cherished for his strength, kindness, and dedication to his family, faith, and community.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; his son, Jeff (Susan) Moore of Carthage; his daughter, Julie (Bob) Petersen of Lamar; seven cherished grandchildren: Micah (Madi) Petersen, Caleb Petersen, Seth (Jasmin) Petersen, Levi (Daniela) Petersen, Keli (Austin) Selby, Cameron Moore, and Andrew Moore; and six great-grandchildren: Alia Petersen, Luca Petersen, Eli Petersen, Jaxon Selby, Kyren Selby, and Lyric Selby. He is also survived by two sisters, Patty (Lynn) Bruno and Sharon Miller; and two brothers-in-law, Tom (Gail) Main and Mike (Dianne) Main.
