Tom Bowin with the Southwest Missouri Regional Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 27 presented a $2,000 check to the Barton County Memorial Park on April 24> The donation will go towards the First Responder Memorial.

Kimmie Reeder, daughter of Ethanna Hall and Kevin Metcalf, is the sixth grade Lamar Middle School Student of the Week. Kimmie likes to ride horses and play volleyball and play with her dog. She has a sister and brother. She has nine horses and two dogs.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Lamar Police Chief Shannon Crouch was recognized by Lamar City Mayor Rick Oeltjen prior to the April 21 city council meeting. Chief Crouch’s mother, Sharon Shackelford, pinned his badge on him. He was then sworn in by Lamar City Clerk Felicia Costley.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Despite the recent wet weather the area has been experiencing, and after having to make some adjustments, the Lamar Elks Lodge No. 2800 was still able to hold its Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19, at 12 noon. Rather than being held on the park lawn, the event was set up inside the shelter house, where members had been busy getting ready. Tables categorized into age groups 0-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 9-12 were laden with several larger gifts, along with bags of eggs that were handed out to the children. There were 4,000 eggs distributed, with 400 $5 bills included in several of the eggs, along with tickets for bigger prizes to be chosen from. Hot dogs and cold drinks were served to the many attending andopportunities were offered to have pictures taken with the Easter Bunny.
