JASPER- A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Knell Mortuary for William Edward McDowell, Jr., 58, Jasper, who died early Thursday morning, July 12, 2018, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Lockwood, with family by his side. Rev. Gregory Esselman will officiate. Inurnment will follow the service at Mitchell Cemetery in Jasper.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, at the Knell Mortuary in Carthage.

Memorial gifts are suggested to Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Lockwood or the First Presbyterian Church, Carthage, in care of the mortuary.

Survivors include his father, William; his wife, Robyn; one daughter, Dr. Carrie Lynette Hartigan and husband Joseph, Springfield; two sons, Michael William McDowell and wife Shelby, Jasper and Matthew Joseph McDowell, Kansas City, Mo.; one brother, Thomas Alan McDowell and wife Patricia, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Cheryl Ann Loeffler and husband Mark, Hesston, Kan. and Caroline Clark Chrisco and husband Michael, Overland Park, Kan. and two grandchildren, Andrew Park McDowell and soon to arrive, Isaac William McDowell.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia.

Mr. McDowell was born Oct. 30, 1959, in Wichita, Kan., to William Edward McDowell, Sr. and Patricia Ann (Clark) McDowell. He was a 1977 graduate of Baldwin High School of Puerto Rico, Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology (with an emphasis in Manufacturing Engineering Technology) from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan., in May of 1984.

He married Robyn Ann Bastin on June 1, 1985, in Carthage. He worked as a mechanical engineer/project engineering III for Leggett & Platt for 23 years in Carthage. He later continued his career, working as drafting supervisor and project manager for eight years at Finley Engineering in Lamar.

He was a loving son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carthage. He had a passion for family, travel adventure, engineering and his hobbies included his elaborate model train village.
