Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Lamar Police Officer Dakota Heller was sworn in by City Clerk Felicia Costley prior to the May 27 city council meeting. His badge was pinned on him by his mother, Amy Heller. Officer Heller began his duties with Lamar following graduation from the MSSU Police Academy on May 9. He had previously worked at the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department as a corrections officer.

The service had been moved from the Barton County Memorial Park due to excessive rainfall prior to and during the service. Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger On Friday afternoon, May 23, a variety of City of Lamar employees gathered at the Thiebaud meeting room to receive a small token of appreciation that included root beer floats. According to Lamar City Clerk Felicia Costley, the City wanted to give something to the men and women of the city who pulled together to assess the damage after the storm on Easter. Costley said, “Then they worked nonstop for several days to get things up and running again”, commenting, “The teamwork was phenomenal!”
